"8 Years Old - Average Age of UK Consumers Receiving their First Mobile"

And with the Mobile Search, Mobile App Discoverability panel, the 'On Device' section of today's Mobile Retail Summit comes to a close. For anyone who couldn't make it, here are some of the highlights of our first three hours.

Our first Stat Attack of the day came from IAB's Alex Kozloff, who came bearing a presentation full of figures - including 51 per cent of mobile users in the UK engage in mCommerce; 24 per cent purchase products or services on their mobiles, and that the average single mCommerce transaction value grew from £12.20 in 2010, to £17.79 in 2011.

In his Mobile Success Stories in Retail presenation, YOC's Hugh Ritzema-Carter talked through examples of retailers using mobile to add value - including Deutsche Post, enabling customers to use SMS as stamps - by sending a premium message, and then receiving a code to write on the letter instead.

Our keynote speech came from Debenham's Sarah Baillie, who shared her experiences in mobile. Debenham's app has seen 700,000 downloads to date, and has taken £3m in sales. Perhaps most promisingly, it's been used more than five times by a third of users. Debenhams' site, meanwhile - which isn't optimised for Tablets - saw 200 per cent growth in iPad visits in the two days between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. And perhaps most interestingly, she revealed that the average age of UK consumers receiving their first mobile in 2011 was 8 years of age.
