Bytemobile ‘Smart Capacity’ Tech Sees Mobile Video Growth
Bytemobile has revealed that its video optimisation technology is now deployed with 36 mobile operators, with 15 deployments in March alone, writes Andy Penfold. The new business wins span Europe, The Middle East, Asia Pacific and the US. In addition, the company says that its Unison Smart Capacity platform has now been deployed by 125 operators in 60 countries, serving more than 2bn customers worldwide.
The company says it expects demand for its video services to grow further. Its Q1 Mobile Minute Metrics report shows that network traffic will continue to increase, as smartphone users grow more accustomed to superior devices and better network performance.
Peter Jarich, service director with Current Analysis, agrees. “Increasing demand for data and bandwidth-intensive applications will continue to consume available bandwidth,” he says. “Operators will evaluate and deploy various data offload and small cell technologies to meet this demand. Ultimately, where the aim is controlling network operating expenses and defer new capital expenditures for infrastructure, they will only be a partial solution and will be joined by optimisation solutions.”
