iPhones Coming to Cricket Wireless June 22
Leap Wireless has landed a coveted deal to carry Apple's iPhone 4S, but with a twist: it will be the first prepaid carrier in the US to offer the device. The opportunity to sell the latest iPhone to prepaid customers under its Cricket Wireless brand didn't come cheap, however. Leap Wireless signed a three-year deal with Apple that requires it to buy $900m worth of devices.
Cricket will offer a service for $55 per month that includes data, texting and voice. The 16GB model will cost $500 and the 8 GB iPhone 4 will be available for $400, beginning June 22.
“Our customers want the best products available and we are excited to bring iPhone to our pre-paid consumers with an industry leading $55 per-month service plan,” says Leap Wireless' CEO Doug Hutcheson. “Launching iPhone is a major milestone for us and we are proud to offer iPhone customers attractive nationwide coverage, a robust 3G data network and a value-packed, no-contract plan.”
