Telcos Need To Refocus, says Pinsent Masons
EMEA telcos need to focus on their key strengths and adopt more service-based business models if they are to survive, a whitepaper from law firm Pinsent Masons has warned.
“The telecommunications market is going through its biggest era of change since the introduction of mobile telephony,” says Jon Fell, Pinsent Masons partner, in the report. “The first response of carriers to the changes of the last five years was to try to become all things to all people. However, that risks losing focus as it adds new challenges potentially outside their traditional experience. As markets change their new business models have to concentrate on their key strengths.”
The whitepaper discusses how ever-increasing data volumes, growing competition, and a changing legal background have impacted upon the telecoms industry. Intended to aid carriers reassess their business models, the report highlights the five key areas these companies will have to consider looking forward, including spectrum use, mPayments, and regulatory changes.
