Locayta Creates BT Exchanges App

BT Exchanges has launched an iPhone application that enables users to search over 2 million UK business and services. The app has been designed by Locayta, which provides search and merchandising technology for online publishers and retailers. It locates businesses by category and automatically detects the users location using the iPhones in-built GPS. The user can access a list of relevant local businesses, ranked by proximity, with directions, maps, and ratings from other customers. The business can then be contacted easily by phone, email or text and its details can be saved to the iPhone.
BT Exchanges, which is part of BT Directories, already uses Locayta search technology to process over 600,000 online searches every day. For this new iPhone application, the Locayta search engine finds businesses most relevant to the users needs through a combination of a weighting algorithm, feedback from user behaviour and a geo-locational radiating search.
Key to the continued success of BT Directories is our ability to deliver comprehensive, intelligent and accurate data to our customers in a rapid and accessible fashion, whether theyre in the office, at home or on the move, says David Gummer, General Manager of BT Directories Online. Locayta, with their exceptionally flexible search engine, have a track record of building tailored search solutions that are specific to the needs of BT Directories end users and classified advertisers. This new application plays an important role in our strategic development.
Locaytas search engine can be integrated with many different types of applications such as ecommerce, content management systems, knowledge management systems, web servers and database applications.
