Pinterest is integrating deeper with Facebook with the launch of a chat extension and a bot for Messenger, as it looks to expand on its over 200m monthly active users through the world’s biggest social network.
With the Pinterest chat extension, it is easier for users to share Pins and collaborate with others directly on Messenger without having to leave the messaging app. This means users will get a Pinterest-like experience without having to visit the Pinterest site or app. Furthermore, Pins shared in Messenger from the Pinterest app will be shown in full within the chat.
The Pinterest Messenger bot brings the power of Pinterest Search to Facebook’s messaging platform. The AI can help users to find recipes, products, style inspiration, and other ideas from the over 100bn ideas across Pinterest.
“This is an early exploration into AI interactions for Pinterest, allowing users to engage with the product in a more natural and conversational way,” said Hayder Casey, engineering manager for growth at Pinterest, in a Medium post. “Although this is a first step, we’re excited about the potential for future iterations.”
The Pinterest chat extension is rolling out to users using the latest English version of the Pinterest app on both Android and iOS over the next few days, while the bot will be available across all platforms, mobile and web.
