RIM Launches BlackBerry App World 2.1

RIM has announced the launch of BlackBerry App World 2.1, which introduces in-app payments via the BlackBerry Payment Service. This enables games developers to offer games on a ‘Freemium’ basis where users can play a few levels and then pay for access to more. It also enables developers to charge real money for virtual goods.

RIM says the BlackBerry Payment Service will make it easier for developers to monetise their BlackBerry apps and can be called easily into existing applications with the Payment Service SDK. A reporting feature enables app developer to track purchases and payments for their goods.
