Amazon Launches “Netflix for Books” with Kindle Unlimited

kindle_10_gallery__467x400-420x0Amazon has introduced a new subscription service enabling customers to read as many eBooks as they want from its library of over 600,000 titles for a fixed monthly fee.

The service, called Kindle Unlimited, grants users access to best selling fiction, non-fiction and childrens titles, as well as a a limited selection of Audible audiobooks for $9.99 (£5.85) a month. Subscribers also receive a three-month trial of Audibles complete collection, with more than 150,000 titles available for listening to.

“With Kindle Unlimited, you wont have to think twice before you try a new author or genre – you can just start reading and listening,” said Russ Grandinetti, senior vice president of Kindle. “In addition to offering over 600,000 eBooks, Kindle Unlimited is also by far the most cost-effective way to enjoy audiobooks and eBooks together.

“With thousands of Whispersync for Voice-enabled audiobooks to choose from, you can easily switch between reading and listening to a book, allowing the story to continue even when your eyes are busy.”

Titles offered on the Kindle Unlimited plan include best sellers like The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Harry Potter series and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, as well as classics like Animal Farm, To The Lighthouse and Cats Cradle, while audiobooks available include the Hunger Games trilogy, Life of Pi and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.
