Android SDK for Wearables Launching in Next Fortnight

The original Galaxy Gear used Android, but Samsung has opted to use Tizen as the OS for newer devicesGoogle is launching an Android SDK specifically tailored for wearable devices in the next two weeks.

Sundar Pichai, Googles SVP of Android, Chrome and apps, announced the move at SXSW, saying the SDK “will lay out the vision for developers in how we see this market working”.

With Samsung abandoning Android, in favour of Tizen, for its latest line of Galaxy Gear smartwatches – and Google rumoured to be working on a smartwatch of its own – it was only a matter of time before a wearable-friendly version of the OS became available.

Its worth noting, though, that the SDK isnt specifically aimed at smartwatches, or any single form factor; rather, its intended to work across a variety of wearable devices and sensors.
