App Downloads Jumped 91 Per Cent on Christmas day

FLURRYApp downloads were up by 91 per cent on Christmas day, compared to an average day in the first three weeks of December – thats according to Flurry, based on data from over 400,000 apps.

The size of this Christmas spike is decreasing – as the graph to the left shows, in 2012 and 2011 the number of downloads more than doubled – but Flurry argues that this is natural part of the app market maturing. App downloads were up 11 per cent year-on-year on Christmas day, and up 25 per cent on an average day in December.

In terms of devices, meanwhile, Amazon saw the biggest increase in activations on Christmas day for the third year running, with 24 times as many Kindle tablets being turned on for the first time than an average day in December.
