Apple Partners with Red to Donate Revenues from Black Friday

red ipodTo mark World AIDS Day 2014, Apple and a number of leading app developers have partnered with AIDS charity Red to donate revenues from one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

For the next two weeks, a dedicated section of Apples App Store will offer 25 apps with exclusive new content, including Angry Birds, Rayman Fiesta Run, GarageBand and Kitchen Stories Cookbook. The proceeds from these apps will go directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.

In addition, Apple will be donating a portion of sales from both online and physical retail locations around the world to the fund on Black Friday (28 November) and Cyber Monday (1 December).

“Apple is a proud supporter of Red because we believe the gift of life is the most important gift anyone can give,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. “For eight years, our customers have been helping fight AIDS in Africa by funding life-saving treatments which are having a profoundly positive impact.

“This year we are launching our biggest fundraising push yet with the participation of Apples retail and online stores, and some of the brightest minds in the App Store are lending their talents to the effort as well.”
