BBC Appoints First-ever Mobile Editor

BBCNewsBBC News Online has appointed Nathalie Malinarich as its first-ever editor of mobile and new formats.

Her role will focus on creating editorial content specifically for smartphones and tablets, a key area moving forwards as mobile begins to outstrip desktop usage.

Upcoming work on BBC Online will see greater optimisation of its mobile site for different smartphone screen sizes, along with a simplfied layout, and an updated responsive desktop site.

The organisation recently went live with a responsive weather site as a minumum viable product, an example of its commitment to agile web development, where the site will be updated over time.

The BBC has been particularly experimental in its news coverage, recently launching a digital news teasing ‘experiment’ on Instagram. Much of this innovation comes out of the BBC Connected Studio project, including BBC News Labs, which has recently held a number of hackathons.

Malinarich was previously BBC News Onlines world editor.
