Celtic Wins Award for Stadium Wi-fi and Fan App

CelticLIVECelticLIVE, the stadium wi-fi system and fan app developed by Celtic Football Club and Sports Revolution, has been named Best Achievement – Marketing by the European Club Association.

Introduced 12 months ago, CelticLIVE was the first fully-functioning stadium wi-fi system in the UK. Working with Cisco Systems, Sports Revolution not only delivered complete wi-fi connectivity to the 60,500-seat Celtic Park, but also developed a dedicated match-day app to operate in conjunction with the wi-fi.

Supporters who download the CelticLIVE app to their phones can access live real-time stats during games, photo and video content, commentary and the ability to vote for the man of the match. The app has been downloaded by 45,000 fans, and 136,000 visitors have registered to the stadiums wi-fi.

“We are thrilled to win this prestigious award for our work with Celtic,” said Simon Hills, commercial director for Sports Revolution. “From the start, this has all been about enhancing the match-day experience for the fans. The combination of true stadium wi-fi access, coupled with a dedicated app that ads real value for fans and supports our belief that stadium wi-fi is fast becoming an expected part of the matchday experience.”

“We are delighted to accept the award from the European Club Association,” said Peter Lawwell, chief executive of Celtic. “Celtic is one of Europes leading football clubs and we are proud of the efforts we have made in this area. We are committed to delivering the best match-day experience possible for our supporters and that commitments requires us to stay at the forefront of technological advances.”
