Instagram Launches Curated Event Feeds for Halloween

instagram curated feedFirst Snapchat, then Twitter and now Instagram – curated feeds seem to be the latest trend in social media, with three of the spaces biggest names now having introduced event-focused feeds that enable users to access themed content from around the world.

Instagrams curated stream was introduced in the US on Saturday, appearing at the top of users normal feed of people they follow as a prompt to “Watch Halloweens Best Videos”. Users who clicked through were taken to a video-only content feed curated by Instagram employees which played in full-screen, without Instagrams usual border, text description and Like count.

“This is a new way to experience events and big moments, as they happen, through the eyes of the Instagram community,” said a spokesperson from Instagram, speaking to Re/code. The feed was just the first of many, according to Instagram, and will become a regular feature.

Snapchat was the first to develop a feature of this kind, with it Live Stories feature which has become one of its central advertising propositions as well, and Twitter recently followed with its Moments feature aimed at compiling tweets and media into a single, curated story.

In many ways, the feeds are an evolution of the hashtag idea, gathering together similar content in a single place, but refine the idea to prevent repetition and select only the best content, rather than the crowd of voices who can make events, especially large global ones, difficult to follow on social media.
