Just Eat launches EURO 2020 campaign with Eric Cantona

Just Eat Takeaway has collaborated with marketing technology agency, Byte to create UK and worldwide digital campaigns to support its global sponsorship of the UEFA EURO 2020 football tournament.

Capitalising on key moments throughout the tournament, such as the England v Scotland game on Friday 18 June, the campaign is a combination of entertaining celebrity-laden videos, stills and dynamic creative across all major social platforms.

The UK campaign features footballing legend Eric Cantona delivering rousing, tongue-in-cheek rallying speeches to get the nation hyped in the lead up to big matches. Tailored executions will be shown when excitement around a particular game starts to peak.

Playing on Cantona’s reputation as a philosophical thinker, the UK films see the star deliver over-the-top football and takeaway-themed lines such as: “To hell with virtual hangouts. Freedom draws near. This road leads to a feast. A feast of skill. A feast of passion. A… meat feast pizza, perhaps?”

A template based creative approach saw specific content for each market created, themed around ‘local hero’ celebrities and key match dates for different countries. The global campaign features multiple A-lister footballers including Gianluigi Buffon, Luka Podolski and Fernando Torres, with the stars helping to amplify content that counts down to the crucial games and their pre-match takeaway ordering window.

“It’s fantastic to be part of the return of international football by our sponsorship of EURO 2020. We’ve created a multi-layered campaign that celebrates the spirit of this international tournament and which I think will have huge appeal for customers and football fans across Europe” said UK Marketing Director for Just Eat Takeaway, Matt Bushby.
