KLM launches iFly platform to let travellers experience faraway places in VR

Dutch airline KLM has launched an online Virtual Reality platform called new iFly virtual reality to let travellers experience far-away places through the power of VR.

iFly VR captures some of the most beautiful places in the world in 360 degrees and is hosted by “Fearless Chef” Kiran Jethwa. In the first of three editions, Jethwa takes viewers to the Thai jungle where he heads off in search of coffee beans, guiding viewers through the coffee production process, which in this case involves elephants. The VR experience puts viewers face-to-face with the elephants.

The 360 videos can be viewed with VR glasses, or on a tablet or smartphone. The platform also offers additional 2D video content and stories to accompany the photos. The second film in the series will be shot in Hawaii.

“By introducing virtual reality, KLM is again blazing a new trail to inspire people and give them the ultimate experience,” said Boet Kreiken, EVP customer experience at KLM.
