Manchester City Unveils Wearable Android App

mcfc wearManchester City Football Club has released a match day app for wearable Android devices, premiering the app in time for fans to monitor this weekends match against Hull using a smartwatch.

The launch of the CityMatchday Wear app comes as the market for wearable devices continues to grow, and makes MCFC the first football club in the world to translate their match day app to the wearable format.

The app will notify users of key events such as team lineup announcements, goal alerts, significant moments like red cards and penalties, as well as selected pieces of commentary.

As part of the apps launch, MCFC ran a competition giving supporters a chance to win one of four Android watches, enabling them to be amongst the first fans to experience the new app.

CityMatchday Wear is another example of how we are constantly exploring and adopting new technology with the ultimate goal of improving the fan experience and strengthening fans engagement with the Club,” said Diego Gigliani, director of media and fan relationship management at MCFC. “We recognise the smartwatch market is still in its early stages but its popularity is projected to increase rapidly as new players come into the market. Were thrilled to get in early and start discovering ways to tap into the devices potential.”
