Microsoft to Bring Android Apps to Windows Phone?

Nokia Lumia 820Microsoft is seriously considering allowing Android apps to run on its Windows and Windows Phone platforms, according to sources cited by The Verge.

The lack of app availability is often cited as the biggest obstacle for the OS, which accounted for just 3.2 per cent of sales in 2013, according to todays Gartner report, compared to Androids 78.4 per cent.

Its an interesting time for the company: Satya Nadella has just taken over as CEO, replacing Steve Ballmer, and its about to close its acquisition of Nokias mobile division. And with rumours abounding that Nokia will unveil a handset running a Windows-esque forked version of Android at MWC, Microsoft seems to be standing at a crossroads.

According to The Verge, feelings on this move within Microsoft itself are mixed, with some believing that it should just make the apps available in its own app store, and others arguing that it could sound the death bell for the OS.
