Musk plots $20 per month charge for Twitter blue tick verification

Twitter is revamping its ‘blue tick’ verification process. The blue tick signifies that an account is authentic. Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, confirmed in a tweet yesterday that the verification process is being revamped.

The Verge reports that the move is part of a plan to increase the cost of the Twitter Blue subscription service that unlocks additional features, from its current rate of $4.99 per month to $19.99 per month. Current verified users would have 90 days to update their subscription, or lose the blue tick mark of authenticity.

According to The Verge report, employees working on the project have been told they must hit a deadline of 7 November to introduce it, or face the sack.

Musk has also reportedly brought a team of Tesla engineers into Twitter, and tasked them with identifying engineers and middle managers who haven’t contributed to the code base lately and lay them off.
