Nest Announces 15 New Partnerships for Smart Home Tech

Works With NestGoogle-owned home automation company Nest has unveiled partnerships with 15 new companies including LG, Whirlpool and Philips Hue, forming the second wave of its “Works with Nest” program.

The program launched six months ago with five initial partners, most notably smartwatch company Pebble. The introduction of major appliance makers like LG and Whirlpool demonstrate how crucial the program is for expanding Nests smart home solution beyond thermostats and smoke alarms.

Among the upcoming innovations announced by the company at CES in Las Vegas were a Whirlpool washing machine that automatically shifts to quiet mode when people are home, Philips Hue lightbulbs which flash when Nest Protect senses something wrong, and a smart electric car charging station from Chargepoint that helps you avoid high energy prices.

Other partners confirmed are August Smart Lock, the Withings Aura Sleep System, Ooma and Kwikset Kevo, while Venture Beat reports that LG, Insteon, Kevo Smart Lock, Beep Dial and Zuli Smartplugs are all among the other upcoming partnerships.
