Netflix buys Night School games studio

Netflix has bought its first games studio, Night School, best-known for its debut title, Oxenfree.

“Their commitment to artistic excellence and proven track record make them invaluable partners as we build out the creative capabilities and library of Netflix games together,” Netflix said in a statement.

Netflix also said it would continue working with developers around the world and hiring the best talent in the industry to deliver a great collection of exclusive games designed for every kind of gamer and any level of play.

It also confirmed that any games it releases will be included as part of its customers’ standard Netflix subscription, with no ads and no in-app purchases.

In a blog post, Night School Co-founder Sean Krankel described it as “a surreal honor to be the first games studio to join Netflix” and said the Netflix team had shown the utmost care for protecting the Night School studio culture and creative vision.”
