Nordic Backs ZYB

Nordic Venture Partners, the Scandinavian ICT venture capital firm, has announced a 1 million (675,000) investment in ZYB, a free mobile backup and sharing service. The investment will boost ZYBs expansion and the company plans to double its number of employees before the end of the year. At the same time, Preben Damgaard, former Executive Vice President of Microsoft Business Solutions, has joined ZYBs board of directors.
ZYB was founded in 2005 by three Copenhagen-based entrepreneurs, Tommy Ahlers, Ole Kristensen, and Morten Lund, who was also one of the early investors behind Skype. It launched its online mobile backup service in June 2006.
ZYB provides an easy way for mobile phone users to securely backup their personal data. The service also has social networking capabilities, enabling users to share the personal content stored on their mobile with others and receive updated contact details and calendar events directly on their handset. Since the full launch of ZYB, users have flocked to the service, partly to make sure theyll never lose their contacts again, and partly because they want to be able to expand the social capabilities of their mobiles says ZYB CEO, Tommy Ahlers.
For Nordic Venture Partners, Managing General Partner Henrik Albertsen adds:
We see a large potential market for mobile backup and management. People have a lot of vital personal data stored on their mobile, and as the amount of data increases they are getting more and more concerned about losing it. We only invest in companies that we believe can be commercialised on an international scale. ZYB has positioned itself globally as the preferred mobile backup service by catering to the users needs with a brilliant user interface and in a way superior to all other similar services.
