pinterest app pinSocial network Pinterest has rolled out app pins to its service, enabling users of the iOS version of the app to install pinned apps onto their device without switching to the App Store.

The app pins, which are denoted by a small App Store badge which includes the Apple logo, function in a similar way to regular pins on the site, enabling users to share them with followers, but also let users download the app to their phone or tablet.

Downloading require the user to authenticate themselves using either their Apple ID password or Touch ID, and can choose to view the app within the App Store if they want to see further details.

The app pin is the latest in the line of expanded information pins the service offers, such as recipe pins which list ingredients and preparation time, product pins which show price and availability, and article pins which provide a headline and story overview.

“Lets say youre Pinning workout inspiration to your Marathon Training board,” said Julie Black, product manager at Pinterest. “If you see a fitness app that helps you reach your goals, you can download it right from Pinterest.”
