Square introduces cash register with fully-integrated point-of-sale system

Square RegisterJack Dorsey’s mobile payment company Square has unveiled a piece of hardware aimed at making its point-of-sale systems more appealing to larger businesses. This comes in the form of its very own cash register.

Square Register embeds the company’s software into a standalone system that no longer requires a mobile device to process transactions. The system is comprised of a built-in seller display and a detachable display where customers can see the details regarding their purchase.

“We built Square Register based on years of insight from working with sellers about what they need on their countertop as their business grows,” said Jesse Dorogusker, head of hardware at Square. “This is the first time we’re delivering a product that incorporates everything we’re known for in one place: beautiful hardware, powerful software, and a robust managed payment experience.”

The Register costs $999, or $49 per month for 24 months via the financing option. It automatically updates, has ethernet, wi-fi, and offline modes, a five-port USB hub, and accepts all payment types.

Square is hosting a pop-up with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) at the Square showroom in New York City until 5 November. Fans of the record label – which boasts the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and SZA – can purchase merchandise from its ‘TDE New Classic’ capsule collection through Square Register.

The integrated point-of-sale system is already in use at select Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream stores, as well as at Goa Taco, Café Grumpy, Monster Cycle, Best Beverage Catering, and Drake’s.
