Starbucks to Expand Mobile Order & Pay Pilot

starbucks order and payLater this month, coffee chain Starbucks will expand its Mobile Order & Pay pilot to Seattle and the rest of the Pacific Northwest in the US, following the success of the initial test in Portland, Oregon.

The mobile ordering feature enables customers to place an order in advance and pick it up at their selected Starbucks location, adding further functionality to its already market-leading app.

The Mobile Order & Pay feature is seamlessly integrated into the app and the My Starbucks Rewards loyalty program, which is also operated through the app. With the expansion of the trial, the feature will be available to customers using iPhones at around 650 locations in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska, with a national roll out planned by the end of the year.

The feature is expected to enhance the customer experience with faster speed of service, and drive increased throughput and incremental transactions across Starbucks stores, as well as aiding baristas in their day-to-day operations.

When using the feature, customers can choose from close-by Starbucks locations which are able to accept mobile orders, and can customise drinks in all the ways they would be able to during an in-store purchase.
