Tinder releases iconic memes to help LGBTQIA+ singles find matches

Dating app Tinder is celebrating Pride month by making available artistic recreations of ten iconic LGBTQIA+ themed memes.

They will be available as GIFs for Tinder members to use with their matches in app this June. Members need to search for #memeingfulconnections in the GIFs search bar in the app when chatting to their match.

Tinder says its users increasingly use humour to connect with OTP (one true pairing) on the app. It says a GIF is sent every two seconds between matches in the UK. And it adds that 84 per cent of the LGBTQIA+ community say that humour is important when making the first move.

To celebrate Pride month it has collaborated with five artists – Dom&Ink, Ashton Attzs, Andrew Ahern, Artist Named Nobody and Kxmolo – to recreate what it called ten of the G.O.A.T. memes. They include “David’s dead” to Alexandra Burke’s ”Elephant in the Room” and “You Ain’t Ever Gonna Get This Candy” by the GC.

The recreated meme content will be live from 24th June across Tinder UK Instagram and TikTok channels, as well as on the channels of all ten Tinder meme panel members and artists.

Jack Remmington, the former X Factor star who consulted on the re-imagined memes, said: “We know the power of memes when dating and so I think it’s amazing that Tinder is offering us more ways to spark a conversation and vibe check a match, through a language we get and love. We felt totally centred in this campaign, and I think it really shows in the outcome.”
