Heres some news about Twitter – and its nothing to do with hate speech or Elon Musks job status.

Instead, its a feature update. The social media firm has just launched View Count – a number that appears beneath individual tweets to reveal the number of people who have seen a tweet. It sits alongside existing information such as the number of retweets, quoted tweets and likes.

Pretty simple idea, and long overdue. In fact, account holders have always been able to see a view count. The difference here is that all users can now see it.

In a tweet, Elon Musk suggested that the feature will give users a fuller picture of the level of activity there is on the platform. He wrote: “This shows how much more alive Twitter is than it may seem, as over 90% of Twitter users read, but don’t tweet, reply or like, as those are public actions….tweets are read 100 times more than they are liked.”
