Twitter testing redesigned web interface and audio-only livestreams

Twitter is testing a major redesign of its desktop website, the first in several years, that will bring its web interface closer into line with the app-driven mobile experience.

The redesign introduces a number of features already available in-app, including night mode, data-saving mode, bookmarks and others. The test is built as a progressive web app, a standard that is designed to mimic the functionality of apps within browser windows. Among the benefits of this standard is that websites can be pinned to a dock or taskbar, just like apps.

The new desktop experience is only available as a “limited test for now” and Twitter hasnt confirmed if or when the new functionality will roll out to all users.

In addition to the new web design, an update for the iOS version of the Twitter app that was released today adds support for audio-only live broadcasts, tapping into the popularity of streaming music, podcasts and other digital audio services will still focusing on Twitters selling point of real-time connection.
