Usage of health and fitness apps has grown 62 per cent over the past six months, according to a Flurry study of over 6,800 iOS apps in the category. Thats compared to a 33 per cent increase in usage, measured in sessions, across all apps.
In 2013, health and fitness apps grew 49 per cent, compared to 115 per cent for all apps.

This growth is driven by a segment of users which Flurry calls fitness fanatics – those who spend more than three times the average amount of time in health and fitness apps.

This group is 62 per cent female – an over-index of 42 per cent compared to the general mobile audience – and 38 per cent male – an under-index of 27 per cent. They are 80 per cent more likely to be sports fans and 40 per cent more likely to be interested in parenting and education, but 30 per cent less likely to be social photo and video enthusiasts.
