Virgin Atlantic Pilots Google Glass at Heathrow

VirginGoogleGLass2Virgin Atlantic has kicked off a trial which will see its concierge staff wearing Google Glass as part of an attempt to provide a more personalised service.

Over the next six weeks, passengers flying from London Heathrow with the airlines Upper Class service will be greeted and checked in by staff wearing the smart glasses.

Glass will be used to provide updates on the customers flight, as well as local weather and events at their destination, and enable staff to automatically translate any foreign-language information. Virgin says that in future it could leverage Glass to provide staff with info on passengers’ dietary and drinks preferences.

After the six weeks are up, Virgin will be evaluating the trials benefits to the business and consumers in order to decide whether it will go ahead with a wider rollout going forward.

Virgin Atlantic has also recently trialled Apples iBeacon transmitters to push flight updates and offers to the iPhones of its passengers.
