Samsung India’s heart-wrenching ‘Samsung India Service (SVC) – We’ll take care of you, wherever you are’ ad was the most viewed ad of 2017 on YouTube.
The emotional ad amassed 100m views in its first seven weeks alone – now sitting on over 150m views since its release on 30 December 2016. Impressive when taking into account that the top 10 most viewed ads generated 539m views between them.
The rest of the top 10 is made up of Clash Royale: The Last Second, Dude Perfect’s Ping Pong Trick Shots 3, Miss Dior – the new eau de parfum, Budweiser’s ‘Born The Hard Way’ Super Bowl commercial, the 2017 Kira Niro ‘Hero’s Journey’ starring Melissa McCarthy, Adidas Originals’ ‘Original is never finished’, the iPhone 7 ad featuring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Siri, Levi’s ‘Circles’, and Mr. Clean’s ‘Cleaner of Your Dreams’ Super Bowl ad.
“While each ad stood out for its own unique reason, inclusion, diversity and empowerment were the popular themes in this year’s list,” said Laura McClung, head of brand marketing at YouTube Ads Marketing, in a blog post. “Brands like adidas showed us a new generation of Originals, Budweiser told the inspiring story of founders Anheuser and Busch, and Samsung claimed the number one spot with a video that got 100m views in its first seven weeks.”
The top 10 ads generated 14m hours of watch time and 3.6m likes – of which Dude Perfect’s Ping Pong Trick Shots 3 had 3m – between them.
Despite the list, the number of views doesn’t always tell us how good a video actually is and, because of this, YouTube wants users to vote on their favourite ads of 2017 at #TheYouTubeAd.
