In-app and Native Ad Blocker Been Choice Arrives on iOS

Been ChoiceFollowing the recent controversy over iOS 9s support of content blocking in Safari, another ad blocking app has arrived in the App Store – this time, promising to block in-app and even native ads.

Been Choice combines a content blocker for Safari with a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service to filter out ad traffic from a wide range of sources, including the Facebook, Yahoo and even Apple News apps. The one major exception, according to TechCrunch, is Twitter.

This isnt the only VPN ad blocker on the market, or the first on iOS – Disconnect, which launched last year, offers in-app ad blocking via VPN if the user upgrades to the premium version – but as a free app launching in a climate where mainstream awareness of ad blocking is much higher, Been Choice could potentially reach a wider audience than its predecessors.

Possibly the most unusual thing about Been Choice is actually its business model. As the apps name suggests, users can decide between the apps Block or Earn modes. The latter, which is initially only available in the US, rewards users for the ads they do see with cash deposits, for every consecutive 30 days they spend in Earn mode.
