Sybase and SAP Update Sybase Unwired Platform

SAP and Sybase have released an updated version of their SyBase Unwired Platform – an SDK for creating enterprise apps.

Sybase Unwired Platform 2.0 and the enhanced SDK are designed to address the needs of both mobile and web developers by providing a comprehensive, standards-based environment for the development of customized native and web applications across various device platforms. They give IT professionals the ability to manage the application life cycle, from deployment to provisioning.

The new SDK featurs a Hybrid Web Container, which offers HTML5, Javascript, and CSS development environments. It offers an SDK for native application develpoment, and cross-platform support for achieving consistency across mobile platforms, including iOS, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile. The platform and SDK also offer integration with back-end systems via SAP-certified connectors and open-standard connectors, as well as security features. Sybase Unwired Platform 2.0 will be available within the next few months, with Android support planned for the second quarter of 2011, the company says.

“The pervasiveness of mobility and impact on consumers to businesses make it one of the most profound transformations in IT history, and it is a key driver for enabling SAP and Sybase to reach 1bn people by 2015,” says Dr Raj Nathan, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Sybase. “It is proven that regardless of industry or size, a mobile enterprise is a fertile field for business innovation, competitive growth and profitability. With the release of our next-generation Sybase Unwired Platform and SDK, customers can now take the offensive and embrace mobility by more easily developing highly productive mobile apps that will drive bottom-line results.”
